Off The Beach Sailing
Our club's OTB sailing season incorporates various learn-to-sail programs with a Sunday race program.
OTB Racing in the Whitsundays
Off The Beach racing at Whitsunday Sailing Club is conducted on Alternative Sunday afternoons, with racing scheduled to start at 1300Hrs (1:00PM). Racing is conducted for all off the beach classes, with competitors of all age groups participating. It is advisable for competitors to arrive at the club between 11:00 and 12:00.
The season is split into several sub-series to encourage competitors to participate as and when they are available. This enables a competitor who is not always available to participate and still feel part of the competition.
Off The Beach Championship Racing
Our Off The Beach Club Championship Racing will be held once a month, giving you a chance to put your skills to the test in a competitive format. We will also be running the Whitsunday Series, designed as a more relaxed and light-hearted racing option to encourage participation and fun.
Club Championship Racing
Club championship racing takes place once a month, from February to November. The points gained in this series go to the Junior and Senior Club Champion Trophies.
Whitsunday Series
- Nara (January to June)
- Whitehaven (July to November)
Before racing begins each day, a briefing is held to discuss the course, weather conditions, and key rules or tactical considerations in detail.
Racing typically consists of a series of three short races per day, allowing competitors to refine their starts and gain experience in close boat-on-boat competition. Between races, sailors have a brief window to refresh, rehydrate, and review their performance with fellow competitors or coaches.
At the end of the session, boats are packed away, followed by time to relax and debrief on the day's racing.
Gain OTB sailing experience
Learning to sail opens a door to a pastime that can last a lifetime. Sailing can be a physically and mentally demanding sport, a means to relax, or a enchanting way of getting from one place to another – even across an ocean. It’s an activity that can be enjoyed from childhood through into retirement.
Whitsunday Sailing Club conducts Learn to Sail courses throughout the year utilising Australian Sailing’s Discover Sailing programs.
