Whoever is in charge up there is certainly favouring Whitsunday Sailing Club’s Airlie Beach Race Week, this week, as Race Director Denis Thompson reports, “more trade winds, but lighter than yesterday – probably in the 15 knot range.”

Thompson says, “The wind is expected to go around to the south-east or event further to the east and lighten off to 12 knots.”

With the tide going north-west, Thompson and his race management team are sending them up around Olden, Gumbrell and Grassy Islands, and although the fleet will be going up against the tide, it should be a quick trip anyway and the tide will be with them on the way back to the finish.

It will be easier on everyone’s boats and bodies than yesterday, “but pleasant and just good to see some different scenery,” Thompson says.

Tonight’s prize presentation will be held at Whitsunday Sailing Club and entertainment from Mango Junction will follow. A free shuttle will ferry crews between Abell Point Marina and the Club.
