Offshore Handicaps

Offshore Handicaps are created based on the past performances of each yacht. (Performance Handicap System)

Relative performance of each yacht in a race is calculated (CHC), and then the starting handicap (AHC) is adjusted by one third of the difference to become the new starting handicap (AHC). There is a limit to the maximum adjustment, so that if you have a massive wind change, and a win by 10% over your normal handicap, the adjustment is restricted to just over 3%. This reduces the adjustments for luck, leaving more performance based adjustments.

Each year, handicaps will be on display after the first races in the season have taken place. For races in the Twilight series, check the results page and there will be a file marked as entrants - this will show possible entrants and handicaps for the next race.
