Volunteer Marine Rescue saved the day when they offered their support during this year's Airlie Beach Race Week.

Race Officials executed emergency rescue procedures during Race 6, when Cool Change, a 10.2 metre catamaran was hit by a rogue 30-knot gust of breeze off North Molle Island, which caused it to capsize within seconds.  Experienced skipper, Bob Critchley from Mackay, and his crew of 5 were all thrown overboard.

Upon notification of the incident, Race Officials immediately contacted rescue authorities and water police.  Volunteer Marine Rescue crew transported 3 of the stranded sailors to safety at Abell Point Marina and helped to secure the capsized vessel, all this free of charge.  Thankfully the rescued sailors suffered only minor injuries.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Volunteer Marine Rescue for their professionalism and valued support.
