One of the Whitsunday Sailing Club’s prestigious races concluded on Sunday in the lead up to the club’s biggest event, Vision Surveys Airlie Beach Race Week.

The annual XXXX Series is a trifecta of races which includes the Round Whitsundays race, a short offshore as well as a bay race for competitors.

Following on from the XXXX Round Whitsunday race held on July 5, club members took on two days of racing starting with Saturday’s XXXX short offshore race.

Run by WSC volunteer Neil Moore, the boats set off to the Molle islands and up to White Rock in perfect sailing conditions.

In division two, Twister, Kevin Fogarty, took the best start with High Tide, Shannon Hart, winning the division three start.

In the results, Wobbly Boot, Craig Piccinelli, won on corrected time, ahead of Twister and Crossbow, David Lund, in third.

The division three boats all finished within second of one another with Anthea, Dewi Hughes, taking the win on corrected time, followed by High Tide and Lorna Rose Too, Peter Mitchelson, in third place.

Sunday’s XXXX bay race was run by WSC Commodore and race officer Jim Hayes.

With a great race, Twister took a great win on both line honours and corrected time, followed by Crossbow and Wobbly Boot.

In the bigger division three fleet, Anthea again took the win, ahead of Lorna Rose Too and High Tide in third place.

Taking all three race scores into account, the overall results saw Twister win the division two series and Anthea take the division three win.

In division two, Twister was followed by Wobbly Boot taking second and Crossbow in third overall, while Lorna Rose Too and High Tide took second and third in division three.
