Airlie Beach Race Week

Event Details

Whitsunday Sailing Club Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach Race Week, the Tropical Festival of Sailing, from 10-17 August 2017.

Australia's 'Tropical Festival of Sailing' is the largest event on the Whitsunday Sailing Club's calendar, attracting more than 100 entries and 3,000 spectators to the region each year.

ABRW 2016 was the most inclusive and community focused race week in the 27-year history of the event.  Everyone was welcome to join in the after-racing activities at the Whitsunday Sailing Club, which included live music every evening and an exciting variety of food at great prices.

Participants will enjoy seven days of sailing, seven racing divisions and seven nights of free entertainment under marquees at the Whitsunday Sailing Club. The Social Program was open to the public and everyone was welcome to soak up the atmosphere and share in the fun.

Last year, a record 131 boats from as far-afield as Asia and New Zealand raced, with some competitors flying in from Europe.  Once again, the colour and spectacle was impressive. The parade of vessels leaving the marinas each morning with battle flags flying, followed by the ballooning of a hundred colourful sails just off the Beach foreshore impressed even those who know less about this highly competitive sport.

People were able to meet the crews every afternoon for drinks at the Whitsunday Sailing Club, from 4:30pm until late there were food stalls, racing results announcements and live music at the Whitsunday Sailing Club.
