Off Beach Lightning Championship/Nippers & Skippers

options

The 2019 Offbeach program kicks off on 10th February with the first races of the Lightning Championship.  This is an opportunity to tune up the body and the boat in preparation for the forthcoming season.  Run over 8 weeks, this series will provide racing for all Off Beach dinghies and sailboards.

With the success of our sailboard fleet at the recent Australian Windsurfer Championship, the rivalry will be keen between sailors, with Hamish Swain having his work cut out to stay ahead of the pack.  Joining the fun this year will be Rear Commodore (Offbeach) Luke Mairs, who finished in a strong 10th place at the championship event.  Also back in the running will be Ned Sleight, proving that he can match Hamish's race winning pace, and Denis Winstanley, again providing the support and mentoring for the whole fleet.

Also out to practice their skills will be the club's O'pen Bic squad, who are in training for the forthcoming Australian Championship to be held at Whitsunday Sailing Club over the Easter period.  With an estimated fleet of 50 boats, the squad are training hard to maximise their performance.

For those just starting out, the club will be running a RS Quest Nippers and Skippers program, again over 8 weeks, enabling beginners aged 7 - 13 to sail one of the club's RS Quests with the assistance of experienced sailors.  This will provide a safe environment while beginners get their sea legs.

The Nippers and Skippers program runs from 12:00 each Sunday, and cost is $140 for non members, $80 for club members.

This program will be followed up by "Start Saiing 1 & 2" programs later in the year.
