Off Beach Sailing

Off Beach SailingIt's fun and safe!

The Whitsunday Sailing Club has one of the best protected sailing areas on the Queensland coast with easy access from the rigging and storage facilities to the club's dinghy harbour and launching area.

On most Sundays, races are held at the club under Yachting Australia (YA) rules www.yachtingaustralia.org.au, starting at 1.30pm. This year, every second sunday forms a part of our Sail Iceberg Series with a first prize of $1,000!

In addition to this, we hold two off-beach regattas each year: the Easter Regatta in April and Spring Regatta in September.

Qualified instructors and competent crews are on the water to ensure all sailors can go out in a safe environment with confidence.

Great Off-Beach Facilities

The club's facilities are ideal for regattas, club racing and social off-beach sailing. They include:

  • Off beach boat rigging for up to 100 dinghies
  • Camping facilities available for regatta sailors and their families
  • Off beach club house with bar and BBQ facilities
  • Launching basin for sheltered boat launching and retrieval

Super Sabot Sailing!

The Whitsunday Sailing Club was very proud to host the 2008 Sabot Nationals.

Running from December 27, 2008 to January 4, 2009, the club catered for about 100 boats, sailors and their families and friends with a fantastic time had by everyone.

The 2008 Sabot Nationals also included the 45th Australian Sabot Championships and Sabot Week 2008.

Learn to sail

The Whitsunday Sailing Club is experiencing continued growth, boosted by the sail training program, particularly in the junior division.

You can learn to sail on Sunday mornings at 9am with private and group lessons available, as well as school holiday programs.

The club's training vessels - including new X3 training dinghies - are regularly on the water training novices of all ages - from 8 to 80 years old - as well as upgrading the skills of advanced sailors.
