Great Whitsunday Fun Race

What started off in 1977 as a bet for a bottle of rum has turned into one of the most iconic sailing regattas in Australia.

The Great Whitsunday Fun Race is a spirited sail across Pioneer Bay in the beautiful Whitsundays – the difference being crews are trying to outdo each other for the titles of Miss Figurehead and Mr Six Pack!

After more than 30 years the excitement surrounding the event has not faded and this year’s Great Whitsunday Fun Race has been set for Saturday September 12, 2009.

All the usual entertainment is scheduled including live bands at the popular Fun Race Party (entry $10) with a ferry service provided from boats to the party.

Presentations will be held at the party for first, second and third in each division as well as prizes for Best Theme Boat, Best Dressed Yacht, Best Dressed Crew and Yacht from Furthest Away.

Registration is $10 with a briefing Friday night and Saturday morning, with the Division 1 warning signal going at midday on Saturday.
